America’s best college baseball players come to Santa Barbara every summer to play for the 2006 and 2008 NBC World Series National Champion Santa Barbara Foresters. After a summer in the sunshine, those players go home with increased skills, some T-shirts, and a trophy or two. . . plus the memory of having been touched by the kids they meet through Hugs for Cubs. The skills will fade, the trophies will rust, but those memories, and the lives they touch, will live forever. |

That’s the goal of Hugs for Cubs, the Foresters’ ongoing “buddy” program for children battling cancer: To create memories for, and give strength to, kids battling something much tougher than a nasty curveball. Each summer, Foresters players develop one-on-one friendships with local kids facing the toughest challenge of their young lives. Hugs for Cubs was created in 1995 through the inspiration of Foresters pitcher Eric Pintard. Diagnosed with a rare form of spinal cancer, “E.P.” battled back to take the mound to start the 1998 season. Through his own determination, by living life to the fullest, by celebrating life, Eric showed that self-healing was possible. Sadly, Eric passed |

away in February, 2004, after battling a form of brain cancer. Eric’s legacy is not only the Hugs for Cubs program, but the hope and joy that remain in the hearts and minds of everyone who was touched by this special and giving young man. |

Hugs for Cubs is an integral part of the entire Foresters family. Our sponsors, players, coaches, staff, and volunteers make an active and supportive Hugs for Cubs program our annual goal. We'll take the field again this summer Thanks for your support of our work bringing joy to children and families facing a tough fight. |
